Public Ferries
Public vehicle ferries to and from Lombok
The workhorses of island travel: vehicle and passenger ferries connecting Bali–Lombok and Lombok–Sumbawa, day and night.
Padang Bai → Lembar
Bali to mainland Lombok, including vehicle ferry options.
Labuhan Lombok → Poto Tano
Connect Lombok with Sumbawa via the public ferry crossing.
How the public ferries work
Vehicles welcome
Public ferries carry motorbikes, cars, and trucks alongside foot passengers — the only sea option if you are bringing your own vehicle between islands.
Runs day and night
Unlike fast boats, public ferries operate around the clock at regular intervals. Crossings are slower but far more flexible.
Buy at the harbour
Tickets are typically purchased at the harbour ticket office on the day of travel. Arrive early during holidays and peak season.
Different harbours
Ferries use dedicated ports — Lembar (not Bangsal) on Lombok's west coast, and Labuhan Lombok on the east for the Sumbawa crossing.
Ferry or fast boat — which should you choose?
Choose a fast boat if you are a foot passenger heading to the Gili Islands or want the quickest crossing with a fixed schedule.
Choose the public ferry if you are travelling with a motorbike or car, want the lowest fare, or need a departure outside fast boat hours.
